Role Purpose

A department trainer in manufacturing is responsible for developing and delivering training programs to employees within a specific department or area of the manufacturing facility. They play a crucial role in ensuring that employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with subject matter experts and department managers to identify training needs and develop training programs. This includes designing training materials, curriculum, and assessments that align with departmental objectives and comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Conducting training sessions and workshops, both in-person and virtually, to deliver training programs to employees. This includes providing clear and engaging instruction, facilitating discussions, and utilizing various instructional methods and tools to enhance learning.
  • Assisting in the onboarding process for new hires within the department. This includes developing and delivering orientation programs to familiarize new employees with company policies, department-specific procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Assessing employee skill levels and identifying areas for improvement. This includes providing targeted training and coaching to enhance specific skills required for job performance within the department, such as equipment operation, quality control, or process optimization.
  • Ensuring that employees are trained on safety procedures, regulations, and best practices. This includes delivering safety training programs, conducting safety drills, and promoting a culture of safety within the department.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs by assessing employee performance and soliciting feedback. This includes conducting assessments, collecting data, and making recommendations for program improvements or modifications.
  • Maintaining accurate training records and documentation, including attendance records, training completion certificates, and evaluation forms. This ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitates tracking of employee training progress.

 

Work Hours

  • Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm)
  • Flexible hours may be required to support weekends/evenings operations requirements (including coverage for shift supervisors on 12hr shift rotation as needed). 

Education & Experience

  • A high school or GED is required
  • Additional certifications, such as Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or Certified Training Professional (CTP), can demonstrate a higher level of expertise and commitment to the field of training and development.
  • 2-5 years of experience in training and development, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting, is preferred.
  • Experience in delivering training programs and conducting training needs assessments is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment is beneficial.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in using instructional design principles and training delivery techniques to create effective and engaging training materials.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and training methodologies.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) or other training administration software is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deliver training sessions and interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

The range for this position is $58,934.00 - $81,034.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
