Role Purpose
The Plant Maintenance Department Head is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the plant’s maintenance operations to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and reliability of manufacturing equipment, systems, and infrastructure. This role will oversee the development and execution of maintenance strategies, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency. Define and lead the implementation of process control systems (SOP's, SOS's) throughout the facility for critical infrastructure equipment. Provide project leadership for maintenance improvement projects. Planning and scheduling of customer special requests outside of daily requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of maintenance supervisors, technicians, and support staff.
- Develop training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge in modern maintenance practices.
- Define and lead the implementation of process control systems (SOP's, SOS's) throughout the facility for critical infrastructure equipment.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Oversee planning and scheduling of maintenance activities to support production schedules.
- Manage maintenance budgets, track expenditures, and ensure cost-effective operations. become familiar with PeopleSoft, ability to enter Pos.
- Ensure proper maintenance of all manufacturing equipment.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Provide project leadership for production and facility improvement projects.
- Drive lean initiatives and root cause analysis to address recurring issues and improve processes.
- Provide project leadership for Performance Excellence (PEx) improvement projects.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams and external contractors to ensure timely project execution.
- Lead and manage day to day scheduling and planning.
- Implement best practices in maintenance management, including the use of CMMS.
- Manage safety department meetings for the Maintenance Department.
- Provide 2nd level troubleshooting and can provide sound direction.
- Interact with multiple departments, organizations, and personnel levels to meet customer needs.
- Coordinate, schedule, and communicate activity to ensure the least amount of disruption to production and needs of customers.
- Become familiar with the process and facility systems, such as HVAC, Electric, Piping, etc., and engage/utilize system owners when needed.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field. Engineering degree with Electrical or mechanical focus a plus
- 6+ years of manufacturing and/or facilities experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven history in preventive maintenance, reliability engineering, and equipment.
- Leadership skills to both communicate expectations and hold individuals accountable.
- Ability to supervise and lead direct and indirect employees.
- Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
- Results oriented and high commitment.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and utilities systems
- Solid understanding of safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Creative and innovative critical thinking skills.
- Can thoroughly carry assignments to completion.
- Basic skills for data collection and data analysis.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or similar certifications a plus.
- Supervisory skills, particularly in coaching technical employees
- Six Sigma Greenbelt/DMAIC certification
- Lean Manufacturing techniques and knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting (budget tracking/spending)
Work Hours
- Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm)
- Flexible hours may be required to support weekend/evenings operations requirements.
- Availability to respond to emergencies or urgent maintenance needs outside regular working hours.

The range for this position is $123,858.00 - $170,305.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
