Purpose of the Position:
The Automation Process Controls Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, maintaining, and optimizing automation systems and control processes within the facility. This includes programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), SCADA systems, instrumentation, and associated electrical systems that drive production and operational efficiency. This role ensures system reliability, compliance with industry standards, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in automation and process controls engineering, as well as experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and maintain automation control systems, including PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, and instrumentation to support facility operations and manufacturing processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automation systems to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct routine inspections, testing, and programming updates for control systems to ensure safety, compliance, and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and engineering, to optimize process controls and automation systems.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for automation systems to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.
• Ensure all automation systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices (e.g., NEC, OSHA, NFPA, ISA).
• Analyze process data and identify opportunities to improve system performance, energy efficiency, and production output.
• Maintain detailed documentation of automation systems, including wiring diagrams, programming logic, equipment manuals, and compliance reports.
• Lead automation-related capital projects, including system upgrades, expansions, and new installations.
• Support emergency troubleshooting and response efforts in the event of system failures or disruptions.
Work Hours:
• Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm)
• 24/7 production plant. On call engineering rotation
Education & Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in automation and process controls engineering within an industrial or manufacturing facility.
Required Skills:
• Expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi) and SCADA systems.
• Strong knowledge of industrial automation technologies, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Experience with HMI development and integration with PLCs and SCADA systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) for system modifications.
• Understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
• Familiarity with electrical safety regulations and industry standards, including OSHA and NFPA.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve automation issues.
• Efficient in Microsoft applications; Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
Desired Skills:
• Experience with advanced automation technologies, including robotics, machine vision systems, and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things).
• Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices related to automation systems.
• Project management experience, including leading automation system upgrades and process improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with backup power systems and redundancy strategies for automation systems.
• Experience in process optimization and lean manufacturing principles.
• Semiconductor manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Understanding of medium voltage systems, substations, and power distribution systems.
Soft Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to optimize control systems and diagnose issues.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, contractors, and management.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented, ensuring automation systems operate efficiently and safely.
• Initiative-taking and self-directed, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
This role is critical to ensuring the facility’s automation and process controls systems are dependable, efficient, and compliant, supporting production operations and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The range for this position is $105,994.00 - $145,743.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
