Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of the Position:

The Production Planner will be responsible for developing and maintaining production schedules, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the efficient utilization of resources to meet customer demand. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in production planning, inventory management, and supply chain coordination.

 

Key Tasks:

  • Develop and maintain production schedules, work orders, and production plans to meet customer demand while optimizing resource utilization, inventory levels, and production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer service teams to assess demand forecasts, customer orders, and production requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer delivery commitments.
  • Monitor production capacity, material availability, and lead times to identify constraints, risks, and opportunities for improvement, adjusting production schedules as needed to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and warehouse teams to manage inventory levels, materials replenishment, and material flow to support production schedules and minimize stockouts.
  • Conduct regular production meetings and communication sessions with cross-functional teams to review production plans, address issues, and provide updates on schedule adherence and performance metrics.
  • Utilize enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and other planning tools to generate production schedules, track work orders, and monitor production progress in real time.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics related to production planning, inventory management, and on-time delivery performance, providing regular reports and analysis to senior management.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI), engineering change orders (ECO), and production transfers, ensuring smooth transition and integration of new products into production.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles, such as kanban systems, pull systems, and continuous improvement initiatives, to optimize production processes and reduce waste.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and technology solutions in production planning, materials management, and supply chain coordination, participating in training and professional development activities as needed.

 

Work Hours:

  • Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm).
  • Managing a 24/7 plant structure, so occasional support when needed.  

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, supply chain management, business administration or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in production planning, materials management, or supply chain.
  • Strong understanding of production planning principles, techniques, and methodologies, with experience in demand forecasting, capacity planning, and scheduling.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex concepts to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with solar manufacturing processes or renewable energy systems is beneficial but not required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management and reporting.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and other planning software tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MRP).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize production and inventory management.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Able to communicate equally well with various levels of the organization (engineers, production associates, and managers).
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities.

The range for this position is $60,410.00 - $83,065.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
