Role Purpose
As a Senior Applications Engineer, you will be the key technical liaison between Corning and its customers, ensuring seamless integration of our products into their operations. By addressing technical challenges, anticipating future needs, and aligning customer requirements with Corning’s capabilities, you will play a critical role in driving customer satisfaction, influencing product strategy, and strengthening Corning’s position as a trusted industry leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical lead for customer relationships, addressing technical queries, resolving issues, and ensuring seamless support by collaborating with internal teams such as Product Technology, Sales, and Product Engineering.
- Act as the conduit for customer feedback, ensuring technology and quality requirements are communicated internally to shape product strategies, sales plans, and technical roadmaps.
- Align customer expectations with Corning’s capabilities, negotiating and finalizing product specifications while balancing customer needs with Corning’s product strategy.
- Lead customer qualification activities, oversee technical negotiations, and resolve product quality issues, ensuring mutual alignment on external specifications.
- Identify unmet customer needs and opportunities for product enhancements, collaborating with internal teams to assess feasibility and drive innovation.
- Evaluate and resolve customer complaints or returns, determining validity and addressing liability to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Support design-in efforts, analyze test data, and assist customers in optimizing product performance.
- Educate sales and account teams on Corning’s technical product offerings to enhance their understanding and engagement.
- Monitor market trends, identify new opportunities, and drive customer programs aligned with account plans to deliver value while maintaining Corning’s desired margins.
- Contribute to product improvement initiatives and cost-reduction efforts to enhance overall quality and efficiency.

Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
- Previous experience (min 2 years) as an Application Engineer
- Experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or R&D
- Commercial and technical experience with customers
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly
- Excellent direct and indirect leadership capabilities (ability to lead multi-functional matrixed teams)
- Communicate clearly in front of a large external audience, including explaining Corning product technology and applications
- Some experience working with and using commercial functions (product engineering)
- Ability to work proactively and autonomously within established guidelines
- Perseverance to drive needs to achieve objectives into the organization
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Master’s degree in a technical field
- Proficiency in Matlab, Minitab, Excel, and statistical tools
- Experience with PPAP, DFMEA, and PFMEA
- 3–5 years’ experience in solar cell and panel manufacturing (e.g., PERC, TopCon, HJT technologies)
- Understanding of specifications, drawings, and approval processes
- Project management experience
- Experience as a Process or Product Engineer in Manufacturing
- Familiarity with Corning products in customer settings

The range for this position is $94,454.00 - $129,875.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
