Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Corning Incorporated is seeking an Automation Measurements Manager to lead the development, integration, and support of automated measurement, sensing, inspection, and test solutions across our automation platforms. In this role, you will provide technical and organizational leadership for a team of engineers — driving scalable measurement solutions aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and project goals. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of engineers — setting priorities, coaching, delivering performance feedback, and supporting career growth, including hiring and onboarding new talent
- Provide technical leadership across automated measurement methods, machine vision, sensing technologies, instrumentation, optics, data acquisition, and systems integration
- Drive project execution — planning, scheduling, resource allocation, risk assessment, issue resolution, and communication of results and progress to peers and leadership
- Oversee rapid prototyping, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept development; review and approve technical designs, test methods, calibration approaches, and engineering documentation
- Champion safe work practices and foster a team culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Optics, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
- 8+ years of engineering or manufacturing experience with significant focus on automated measurement, metrology, inspection, or test systems
- Demonstrated technical leadership, project leadership, or people management experience
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and influence technical decisions across disciplines
- Strong understanding of automated measurement and sensing system integration, including calibration, accuracy, repeatability, and measurement uncertainty in industrial environments
- Solid foundation in software engineering principles, data analysis, and documentation; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with machine vision, laser-based measurement, displacement sensing, temperature sensing, force measurement, spectroscopy, or other industrial sensing technologies
- Programming experience in C#, C++, Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, OpenCV, HALCON, or similar tools
- Familiarity with vendor-based inspection/sensing platforms and PC-based measurement or automation software
- Experience with data acquisition systems, industrial communications, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) interfacing, and controls integration
- Optical or sensor modeling experience; background in manufacturing, automation, metrology, or industrial engineering environments

The range for this position is $143,473.00 - $197,276.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
