Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
- Support the plant through the timely procurement of quality materials in support of the manufacturing plan.
- Execute procurement strategies that Assure Supply and Optimize Total Cost of Ownership for the Plant.
Day to Day Tasks:
- Procurement Activities:
- Responsible for tactical procurement execution for assigned material, equipment and services. Duties include communication to suppliers, submission of PO’s, monitoring of deliveries, expediting materials and resolving billing discrepancies as needed.
- Submits requests for new vendor setup in the system.
- Works with Strategic Procurement, Operations and the Business Teams to execute the Key Commodity Strategies.
- Ensures compliance to the Global Buying Policy.
- Manages relationships with supplier customer service representatives.
- Assumes responsibility for smaller commodity spend and procurement projects.
- Inventory Management:
- Analyzes, plans and determines proper material requirements using MRP and other supply chain tools
- Manages raw material inventory levels and turns. Tracks and reports for all assigned items to ensure goals are being met.
- Generates and communicates volume forecast to suppliers as required while understanding supplier constraints and capacity levers.
- Supports salvage and recycling programs of all assigned materials and scrap reduction efforts in coordination with production and engineering.
- Works with Logistics, Operations and Transportation Groups to ensure that material deliveries are optimized (time, quality and cost).
- Quality / Supplier Management:
- Primary point of contact on vendor relations necessary to supply the plant effectively and efficiently
- Supports supplier quality audits and supplier meetings.
- Collects, analyzes and summarizes supply management performance metrics against objectives including quality, cost, on-time delivery and lead-time. Communicates results and works with suppliers to drive continuous improvement.
- Works with Quality, Warehouse and Product Engineering to ensure proper disposition of rejected materials.
Travel Requirements:
- 5%-10% travel.
- Trips to Corning locations and supplier sites for site audits, quality resolution, price negotiations, supplier business reviews, supplier development or project coordination.
- Travel may also include travel associated with training and development.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- Regular office hours: 8-5 M-F
Required Skills & Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business or technical field
- Education, experience, training or certification (CPIM, CSCP, etc.) in a supply chain function
- Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, throughout all internal levels of the organization and externally.
- High degree of initiative and motivation with ability to work in a matrix environment or within a cross functional team.
- Proven organizational and time management skills.
- Computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge and understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems. SAP knowledge a plus.
- Negotiation, purchasing or commodity experience.
- Project management experience.
- Being open to relocation for future opportunities.
Soft Skills:
- Conflict Management, Influencing, Time Management, Global business knowledge.

The range for this position is $71,930.00 - $98,904.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
