Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Corning is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, develop, and integrate automated control systems in our fiber optic cable manufacturing plant. You’ll troubleshoot automation issues, drive process improvements, and collaborate across teams to deliver innovative solutions that increase safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create/modify Allen Bradley PLC programs and design new plant control systems
- Lead automation, improvement, and obsolescence mitigation projects
- Implement robust, cost-effective controls for automation and process equipment
- Interface with integrators to deliver integrated process systems
- Support projects from design through start-up, including training plant personnel
- Review electrical designs and ensure safety and compliance with Corning standards
- Communicate/document changes and practice our core values
Schedule: M–F, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with occasional off-shift support
Requirements:
- BS in EE/CS/ME or related field, 2+ years’ industrial PLC/HMI/SCADA experience
- AutoCAD Electrical proficiency (panel layouts/schematics, documentation)
- Hands-on experience in programming HMI/SCADA systems, understanding industrial comms protocols
Preferred:
- Allen Bradley ControlLogix v20+ PLC experience
- Strong knowledge of industrial safety codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, LOTO)
- Experience with VFDs, servos, machine design, and legacy controls
- Experience with OSI PI interface

The range for this position is $88,834.00 - $122,148.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
