Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Join a cutting-edge fiber optic cable manufacturing team where innovation meets precision. As a Controls Engineer, you'll tackle complex technical challenges, support new technology deployment, and drive process optimization. Your work will contribute to superior product quality and cost-effectiveness while ensuring alignment with Corning's intellectual property management standards.

 

🔍 Key Responsibilities

  • Design, modify, and debug Allen Bradley PLC programs (ControlLogix v20+).

  • Lead and support controls engineering aspects of capital expansion, cost reduction, and process improvement projects.

  • Develop efficient, high-performance control and automation systems.

  • Collaborate with external integrators to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Execute full project lifecycle: design, testing, installation, startup, training, and tech transfer.

  • Independently monitor equipment fabrication at vendor sites.

 

🧠 Required Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s in EE, CS, ME, MET or related engineering discipline.

  • 2+ years hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment with:

    • PLCs / HMIs / VFDs

    • Ladder logic, structured text & function block diagram programming

    • AutoCAD Electrical 2021: panel layouts, schematics, documentation

    • HMI/SCADA programming & industrial communication protocols

  • Strong troubleshooting and electrical design skills.

  • Experience with machine/motion controls, servo systems, and safety compliance.

  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, and Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures.

Work Hours and Schedule:

• Nominal working hours are M – F, 8 AM – 5 PM.
• Informal 24/7 coverage for ad-hoc call-in support (3rd Level Subject Matter Expert).

Travel:  less than 1%

The range for this position is $88,059.00 - $121,082.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
