Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position

Perform verification, qualification and reliability testing of optical telecommunications products along with other supporting activities in a laboratory environment.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Perform set up and performance verification of fiber optic testing system
  • Configure product samples for environmental and mechanical testing
  • Perform optical measurements using manual or automated test systems
  • Program and operate environmental chambers and test equipment
  • Setup/perform and track/report progress of testing as directed
  • Document test results from optical fiber component testing as per documented procedures
  • Conduct basic data analysis
  • Assist in development and improvement of test methods and test procedures
  • Draft test reports in the proper format and filed accordingly
  • Assist in conducting failure mode analysis
  • Contact and set up internal/external laboratories to perform testing as necessary
  • Assist in obtaining quotes for both outside testing and equipment purchases or rental, and generate purchase order
  • Perform preventive maintenances on the equipment associated with optical testing
  • Perform equipment calibration
  • Design/build fixtures and jigs
  • Provide training for other technicians
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area

 

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to complete assignments accurately and at a pre-defined schedule
  • Detail oriented
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Written/verbal communication skills
  • Hands-on technical skills using test and measuring equipment

 

Desired Skills

  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic components and test equipment (lasers, optical switches, power meters)
  • Basic understanding of optical metrology and testing terminology
  • Familiarity with relevant industrial standards such as Telcordia, ISO and IEC
  • Highly motivated and work as a “self starter”

 

Education/Experience

  • Technical Associates degree or University technical courses
  • 2 to 5 years relevant industry experience with fiber optic or other telecommunications products
  • Experience in a metrology laboratory environment is highly desirable (dimensional analysis, material properties, etc.)

The range for this position is  $52,854.00   -  $72,675.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
