Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Join our team as a Division Cable Quality Engineer, where you'll be a key contributor to the development and deployment of next-generation fiber optic and drop cable products. This role blends deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to deliver cost-effective, high-performance solutions that shape the future of connectivity.

You’ll lead initiatives that enhance product quality, reduce costs, and improve process efficiency—while supporting new product introductions (NPIs) and global quality systems. 🔧 Key Responsibilities

 

  • Serve as subject matter expert for FR/Drop Cable products across global operations.

  • Collaborate with Technology, Product Line, and Division Engineering to identify optimal manufacturing strategies.

  • Drive early detection and resolution of vulnerabilities during NPI phases.

  • Ensure quality systems are embedded in all new product and process developments.

  • Lead global quality deployments and customer issue resolutions.

  • Conduct specification analysis, guardbanding, and risk assessments for new and custom products.

  • Facilitate root cause analysis and implement sustainable, proactive solutions.

  • Support and execute the global strategy for OFC Quality Systems.

  • Supervise and mentor team members on quality systems and NPI best practices.

  • Coordinate benchmarking and share best practices across divisions.

  • Promote a culture of quality ownership and continuous improvement.

 

🎓 Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Ceramic, or Materials preferred).

  • 3–5 years of experience in process or quality engineering.

  • Strong data analysis skills; familiarity with statistics and control charts.

  • Effective decision-making based on data and structured problem-solving (e.g., KT).

  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate across cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Experience in project management and driving initiatives to closure.

  • Familiarity with quality systems and PCPD principles.

 

🌱 Desired Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge of fiber optic cable manufacturing processes and product attributes.

  • Experience with statistical software (SAS, JMP, Minitab).

  • Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) or DMAIC project experience.

The range for this position is $95,931.00 - $131,906.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
