Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.



Role Purpose:

Provide EHS expertise, and practical support for Safety Excellence in all OFC manufacturing plants with the following objectives: a) ensure we have a rigorous safety program that protects the safety of our employees, contractors and visitors, b) maintain safety standards and governance processes aligned with the Corporation, and OFC training framework, c) develop technical solutions to improve safe manufacturing capability within North America. This role requires working within a complex manufacturing structure at a plant and division (OFC) level. The work is multi-dimensional in the areas of regional support and corporate regulations and compliance. It involves influencing sustainable change in cultural and technical aspects of manufacturing.

Required Education:

• Minimum BS (MS preferred) – Safety Engineering – Systems or Industrial Engineering considered with demonstrated manufacturing experience in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health.


Required Years and Area of Experience:

• Demonstrated manufacturing experiences in developing and deploying safety strategy and associated tactical plans to deliver targeted results. Desired is experience within a Safety Management Systems approach. Minimum 3- 5 years.

• Demonstrated manufacturing experience on a regional or multiple plant environment and cultures.

• Knowledge and experience in Safety Regulatory and Legal requirements and industry direction.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; both organization and presentation skills.


Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate, under the supervision of the OFC Global Safety Engineering Leader, key initiatives for safety performance and improvements.

• Support and maintain safety in manufacturing capability for OFC plants. Responsibilities should include all aspects of safe manufacturing operator tools, process equipment, facility operations, maintenance and introduction of new technology.

• Support and maintain OFC safety strategy that drives and delivers an improvement roadmap.

• Contribute to the development of consistent safety standard for all manufacturing locations that that aligns with Corning Incorporated that incorporates local codes and regulations. This will include supporting the management and deployment of evolving changes in Safety Standard requirements

• Contribute toward driving safety governance and compliance to ensure safety standards are met in all division projects and so metrics are implemented, maintained and sustained.

• This position will support divisional safety initiatives and division projects to ensure safety compliance is met to standards. The role will be critical to support business needs associated with growth projects, capacity increase, new technology introduction, new product development, construction activities, etc. Corning is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
