Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Overview

 

Corning is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to lead a small team of engineers and technicians focused on process optimization, continuous improvement, and new product and process integration in a manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in driving capacity, quality, and cost performance while developing technical talent and aligning engineering efforts with business objectives.

 

Primary Day-to-Day Responsibilities

 

  • Lead process improvement projects focused on capacity expansion, yield, quality, and cost reduction — developing detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting and resolving complex process issues using data analysis, experimentation, and engineering principles
  • Lead the implementation and integration of new processes and technologies, ensuring robust transfer and validation
  • Standardize and replicate best practices in process engineering across operations, collaborating with peer sites to share learnings and drive consistency
  • ollaborate with cross-functional teams (Technology, Quality, Manufacturing, Operations) to execute initiatives and ensure alignment with quality and business standards
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence

 

Location, Work hours and Travel Requirements

 

  • Work Location: Hickory, NC
  • Standard 40-hour work week; flexibility required for project demands
  • Travel approximately 10%, with occasional weekend or after-hours support for critical projects

 

Required Qualifications

 

•  Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Process, Materials, Polymer Engineering, or a related technical field

•  Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in process engineering or manufacturing support roles

•  Demonstrated success leading process improvement, cost reduction, or new product/process integration projects

•  Experience managing, mentoring, or leading teams in a manufacturing or technical environment

•  Proficiency with data analysis and statistical tools (Excel, Minitab, JMP, Python)

•  Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, DMAIC)

•  Ability to travel approximately 10%, with occasional flexibility for weekend or after-hours support

 

Desired Qualifications

 

•  Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification

•  Formal project management training or certification (e.g., PMP)

•  Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting

•  Project Management experience

 

Skills / Competencies

 

•  Applies engineering principles and statistical methods to diagnose root causes and implement sustainable process solutions

•  Leads and develops small technical teams in a matrixed manufacturing environment

•  Translates complex technical data into clear recommendations for cross-functional stakeholders

•  Creates and manages detailed project plans, including cost analysis and resource allocation

The range for this position is $125,734.00 - $172,884.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
