Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

The intern will develop methodologies for design and characterization of fiber optics products and apply state-of-the art experimental/ theoretical and skills to technical problems

Responsibilities:

• Design, build and automate optical systems
• Develop and implement Labview software for measurement systems
• Develop tools for data analysis
• Document test methodologies and test results
• Develop and implement methodologies to optimize measurement performance

Education and Experience

• Completion of junior year in Electrical Engineering, Optics or Physics. Graduate students in the same disciplines will be preferable.
• The candidate must have completed a minimum of two courses in Optics or Fiber Optics
• Relevant experience a plus

Desired Skills

• Optical metrology, preferably in fiber optics
• Experience in Labview programming
• Knowledge of statistical analysis
• Fluent in Spanish and English

The range for this position is $1,519-$3,074 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
