The Global Supply Management (GSM) Function is recognized as a critical function for business success.  It delivers the training, tools and opportunities needed to create innovative solutions for the function & the corporation.  GSM has leading edge, effective processes to anticipate and exceed customer requirements.

Role Purpose

Responsible for execution of procurement activities and strategies to manage sourcing of quality parts, materials, equipment, and services for the Hickory, NC & Newton, NC manufacturing plants serving Corning’s Optical Communications business unit. Responsible for assured supply of materials, lean inventories, and supplier performance while continuously identifying and implementing opportunities to lower total cost of ownership and mitigate risk (e.g. on-time, best price, high quality).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages indirect sourcing and procurement needs vital to plant operations, creating and driving strategy aligned with Global Supply Management (GSM) organizational and business objectives.
  • Actively seeks improvement opportunities that optimize total cost of ownership, supply assurance, inventory, risk, service level, and internal processes.
  • Leads negotiations, creates/manages contracts, and owns supplier relationships to ensure consistent delivery of quality services/goods at the best value to Corning.
  • Educates, champions, and ensures compliance with GSM procurement policies and processes, mitigating risk to Corning and utilizing appropriate buying channels/processes to maximize value.
  • Supervises/manages personnel as assigned (e.g. procurement coordinators, buyers, interns, etc.) promoting a healthy work environment that empowers personnel to take ownership of their role and deliver meaningful results.
  • Minimal travel required

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related field with MBA Preferred
  • Supply chain sourcing/procurement expertise.
  • Demonstrated decision making, influencing, negotiation, and conflict management/problem solving skills with the ability to drive results through others cross-functionally.
  • Contracting (negotiation, writing, and management).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to utilize data analysis to find opportunities.
  • Maintains attention to detail.
  • Global business knowledge and cross-cultural agility.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience utilizing SAP or another comparable Enterprise Resource Planning tool to drive supply chain processes and/or reporting.
  • Strong MS Excel skills.
  • Price/Cost or Should Cost analysis.
  • Experience with global manufacturing operations through work or project experience
  • Institute for Supply Management (ISM) or APICs certifications CPSM, C.P.M., A.P.P., CPIM, CSCP, etc.
  • Green Belt Certification and/or project management experience

The range for this position is $110,347.00 - $151,728.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
