Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

  • Under the supervision of an Operations Department Head with a matrix reporting into the Lean Engineering Supervisor lead and assist with projects related to Operational Excellence addressing continuous improvement opportunities in the areas of quality, cost, delivery and employee morale.
  • Daily engagement with operations including manufacturing associates, team leaders and support group personnel.
  • Daily interaction with processes supporting 2 key plant product lines.  Processes include: fiber coloring, ribboning, buffering, and jacketing.  Addressing areas of product, people, and materials flow.
  • Shadow Team Leader for understanding of role and gain 1st hand experience in operations supervision.



  • Work under the direction of a Team Leader or Department Head Level Manager.  Use data and shift observations to recommend improvements and solutions.
  • Deliver to small scope short duration projects aimed at Operations Excellence in terms of cost, delivery, safety, morale, and quality.


Hours of work / work schedule / flex-time

  • Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm
  • Periodic shift work during periods of team leader shadowing


Education and Experience

  • BS Engineering, Technical or Science discipline
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Interest in Operations Leadership a plus
