Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Corning is seeking a Machine Vision Engineer to design, develop, and debug machine vision hardware and software across a range of automation and inspection systems. In this role, you'll combine vendor-specific platforms with custom PC-based solutions to deliver high-performance vision capabilities. You'll also serve as a technical resource for optics selection and rapid prototyping, collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with team leaders to identify machine vision requirements; generate and evaluate concepts, selecting appropriate techniques, hardware, and algorithms through rapid prototyping and engineering analysis.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical designers to integrate machine vision hardware into automation system designs.
- Develop, test, and debug software for machine vision applications using C-based programming languages and PC-based vision libraries.
- Document technical results and novel inventions through clear reports and presentations for peer and management review.
- Champion a safe working environment for all team members and site visitors in alignment with Corning's safety standard
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field
- 2+ years of combined engineering or manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of machine vision system integration, including optics, cameras, lighting, and interface selection
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming in at least one C-based language
- Experience with at least one PC-based machine vision library
- Strong mathematical foundation: linear algebra, signal processing, vector graphics, and modeling
- Familiarity with the full engineering design lifecycle (requirements through deployment)
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with Cognex or Keyence vision systems
- Proficiency in C# and/or C++
- HALCON programming experience
- MATLAB and/or Python
- Optical modeling
- UML or OpenCV experience
- Exposure to artificial intelligence / machine learning in vision applications

The range for this position is $85,304.00 - $117,293.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
