Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of New Position:
- To produce the required part(s) from the prescribed materials with the requirements of specified drawings in a timely manner.
- To meet the customer requirements whether internal or external every time.
Education Requirements and Experience Requirements:
- Diploma/certificate from an accepted and approved technical institution or successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years in machining experience preferred.
Required Skills:
- Hands-on Self-Starter and able to work with minimal direction
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Adaptable and flexible Able to work in a team environment
Major Responsibilities:
- The intermediate level machinist must have excellent manual and CNC skills with the ability to use Algebra, Trigonometry, and Advanced Geometry.
- Be able to effectively read and understand part drawings, setup and program a Fadal CNC milling machine from the machine’s control panel, flat grind, setup and operate EDM Drilling equipment, manual mill, manual lathe, horizontal band saw beginning design of machined jaws and minor fixtures.
- Possess programming capability of CNC’s and G&M-Code.
- Understand how to use the Machinery’s Handbook to find speeds and feeds and dimensions for threads as well as any other necessary machining operation.
- Have the ability to set up sine plates for complex angle setups.
- Understand how to properly setup parts for machining to make them in a timely and effective manner.
- Understand how material moves when machined and be able to compensate for it with sound machining practices to make parts as specified on prints.
- Perform close tolerance quality work in highly difficult and diversified conditions.
- Ability to use and properly maintain manual measuring equipment to maintain tolerances listed.
- Have intermediate knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
- Maintain machining equipment and service it in accordance to the appropriate service manual.
- Maintain house-keeping and organization efforts.
- Assist Engineering in the design and materials specifications to improve the efficiency and productivity of the parts being produced.
Working Conditions:
- Must be willing and able to work with metal chips, oil, coolant, oil mist and noises.
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs to load machines.

The range for this position is $34.75 hourly rate - $39.38 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
