Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
The purpose of this position is: This is a working coordinator position. You will still have maintenance technician responsibilities when coordinator work is not required. You will Coordinate and facilitate the daily activities of the maintenance repair function, ensure that equipment operates efficiently through the effective use of preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance, and Collaborate with night shift operations leadership to determine priority and ensure communication is clear.
This position includes significant duties such as:
- Troubleshoot equipment failure and perform root cause analysis.
- Facilitate root cause analysis in a team environment.
- Provide technical assistance, coordinate maintenance activities, and direct workflow to effectively support production operations.
- Verify personnel complies with safety and environmental policies.
- Create, review, complete, modify, reclassify, and cancel work orders in CMMS as required.
- Interface with CMMS Administrator to improve spare part inventory.
- Plan and schedule preventative maintenance and repair work that require equipment downtime.
- Interface with production department to communicate any problems/ issues.
- Responsible for dispatching and directing maintenance personnel to ensure equipment is in proper working condition.
- Participate in team meetings with engineering and production, these meetings could include, but are not limited to production planning meetings, engineering process reviews, maintenance planning meetings or reviews, and equipment improvement teams (EIT).
- Work with engineering to best determine necessary maintenance support and resources for projects.
- Coordinate the maintenance requirement specifications for the design of new machinery and/or upgrades/ improvements to existing equipment.
- Assist in planning, and in some cases conducting training for maintenance technicians.
- Procure needed parts, supplies, and fabrication material for projects or machine repair as required.
- Assist in tracking critical maintenance metrics: Examples include overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), scheduling compliance for repair/project/preventative maintenance work, and overall maintenance costs.
- Work in a team environment that fosters safety awareness and mutual respect.
- Support the Maintenance Master Trainer with the training of maintenance personnel on troubleshooting and equipment repairs.
- Attention to consistent material handling procedures with an awareness of safe material transport according to environmental and hazardous materials protocols.
- Demonstrate good leadership and communication skills; this description is intended to provide general duties and responsibilities and not meant to be an exhaustive inventory of the role. You may be assigned and expected to perform duties not otherwise contained in this description.
- Participates and leads shift to shift handoff meetings
Working Conditions:
- Good working conditions.
- Heavy lifting in rare instances typically assisted.
- Majority of time light lifting is involved.
- Must be willing and able to lift up to 35 lbs
- Must be willing and able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift for long period of time.
- Must be willing and able to wear all PPE requirements and abide by all dress codes including but not limited to: safety vest, ear plugs, safety toed shoes (composite or steel), cut resistant gloves, and safety ANSI rated glasses.
- Some exposure to elements of dirt, dust, fumes, and noise, but none disagreeable.
- 5 days a week presence
- Shift flexibility is allowed but shift schedule will require 40 hours of night shift presence.
- Additional flexibility to attend departmental meetings and trainings on day shift is expected.
- Off-hours support for in plant personnel will occasionally be necessary.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, plus: Equivalent to an accredited apprenticeship program in trade, craft, or occupation.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of machine functions, equipment processes, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Knowledgeable of electrical safety, lockout/tagout, and environmental regulations.

The range for this position is $34.00 hourly rate - $38.00 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
