Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Job Description:

The Materials Development Technician’s main responsibility is to carryout specified cable testing in accordance with appropriate customer optical fiber cable standards including but not limited to GR-20, GR-409 and/or other customer specific standard tests.  

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Technician will be responsible for understanding the operation, maintenance and calibration of appropriate lab equipment. 
  • The Technician will have to understand the accuracy of the equipment that is used for a specific test.
  • The Technician will need to understand and follow test procedures used in cable standards or customer specific standard equivalents. 
  • The Technician will be required to use a Work Request System to receive requests, to acknowledge customer work requirements and to communicate expected work request timing with customers and Laboratory Supervisor/Manager.
  • The technician will need to be proficient with the use of computers, the computer software needed, and calibration maintenance to properly operate test equipment within test limits.
  • The Technician will be responsible for presenting data effectively in the Work Request System in a timely manner and communicating results with the requestor/customer upon completion of work.
  • It is the responsibility of the Cable Laboratory Technician to complete work assigned and prioritized by their Lab Supervisor/Manager. 
  • The technician will need to attentive to consistent material handling procedures with an awareness of safe material transport according to environmental, hazardous materials protocols, and hazardous waste regulations.  
  • The technician will be knowledgeable in their assigned testing well enough to train new technicians on the proper use and maintenance of the assigned lab equipment.

 

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • AAS degree in a Technical Field or
  • 2 years of experience in a related field

The range for this position is $58,411.00 - $80,316.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
