Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

  • In collaboration with your engineering team mates/supervisor and as it relates to precision engineering and metrology for fiber optic connectivity:
    • Design and execute experiments related to the evaluation of metrology systems
    • Create and evaluate test methods.
    • Contribute to various other projects related to high-precision engineering and metrology.
    • Evaluate new technologies as they apply to the current and future needs in precision metrology for Corning’s Optical Connectivity Solutions business.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver results through the application of rigorous science and engineering.
  • Take ownership of the quality and timeliness of ones assigned tasks.
  • Establish an organized archive for reference documents and test results.
  • Make learning a priority.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled on a Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Optical Engineering with an emphasis in, through education or research, precision engineering and metrology.

 

Required Skills:

  • Graduate student familiar with the basic concepts:
    • Metrology and precision engineering
    • Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
    • Optical Measurement technology
    • MSA/GR&R
    • Understand design with some familiarity in GD&T as a plus
    • Familiarity with statistical application
