Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 
OVERVIEW
 
Corning’s Optical Fiber and Cable division is seeking a Measurement Systems Engineer to advance manufacturing capabilities through applied measurement engineering, machine vision, and data analysis. Based in Hickory, NC, this role drives process improvement, cost reduction, and manufacturing readiness for new technologies across global optical fiber production sites.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
 
Location: Hickory, NC
Travel:  15–20% in North Carolina; domestic and international travel may also be required depending on project assignment
Work Schedule:  40+ hours/week, Monday–Friday
 
PRIMARY DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Apply advanced measurement techniques — including non-contact and optical methods — to drive capability improvements in glass manufacturing processes
  • Lead cost reduction and process improvement projects with division-wide impact
  • Support and improve existing optical measurement systems
  • Partner with technology and plant manufacturing teams to ensure smooth deployment of new technologies, products, and processes
  • Collaborate with global manufacturing sites to coordinate and resolve glassmaking-related technical challenges with a focus on measurements
     
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), or Optics
  • 3–5 years of engineering experience with a focus on measurement concepts and software development
  • Data analysis proficiency, including experience with tools such as Microsoft Access, Excel, Minitab, JMP, or Databricks
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), or Optics
  • Prior experience transitioning a new product or process from development into manufacturing
  • Software development skills, with preference for .NET or Python

  • Applies innovative engineering approaches to solve complex measurement and process challenges in a manufacturing environment
  • Communicates technical findings clearly across all organizational levels and across global manufacturing sites
  • Works cross-functionally across manufacturing, technology, R&D, operations, procurement, and supply chain to drive project outcomes

The range for this position is $95,144.00 - $130,823.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
