Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

This position requires demonstrated skills in manufacturing engineering and project management to ensure alignment and a successful execution of measurement and inspection systems projects by working research, development, engineering and manufacturing groups to enable Corning, Inc. to develop robust next generation measurement solutions and improve existing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with MSI leadership and multi-national project teams, including research, technology, division, and manufacturing groups, to track technology development progress, actively support to lead measurements projects and ensure alignment with manufacturing requirements.

• For department initiatives, lead the execution of solution identification, design, testing, and implementation of measurement and inspection, including SW systems industrialization and deployment. Incorporate internal and external VOC (Voice of Customer) to determine solutions that meet requirements, value propositions, and financial justifications.

• Define and execute project plans that align with overall business objectives, ensuring safety, quality, performance, schedule, and budget targets are met. Effectively implement all phases of project management methodologies, including initiation, planning, implementation, control, and close-out.

• Facilitate the transfer of new measurement technologies from development to manufacturing, ensuring systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with operational needs. Focus on the technical development and deployment of measurement systems to support high-volume production.

• Interact regularly with project sponsors and stakeholders, provide periodic project updates to customer and management, communicates project goals, objectives, key status information and overall impact of the project effectively with project team members.

• Lead initiatives to support test capacity expansions, rebuilds, and process improvements that address measurement cycle time reduction, uncertainty improvements, and cost optimization. 

Experiences/Education - Required

• Minimum of a BS Engineering degree or equivalent experience.

• 3+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager

• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex engineering projects involving multiple technologies and cross-functional teams.

• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in parallel.

• Effectively communicate project status, issues, risks, and results.

• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide updates to leadership 

 

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Some experience and applied knowledge of fiber optic cable assembly measurement equipment related but not limited to: optical attenuation, reflectometry, surface profile interferometry, and video microscopy (end-face inspection).

• Experience with new product introductions and transitioning measurement systems from development to manufacturing.

• Knowledge of fiber optics manufacturing principles and measurement science.

• Understanding of manufacturing principals and experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrated application of measurement science in the fields of fiber optics, surface profiling interferometry, microscopy, optical refractometry and/or other optical or physical measurement disciplines.

• Some understanding with computer-based measurement or automation equipment, design, setup, support and data systems architecture. 

• Experience with FMEA, PFMEA, and design of experiments (DOE) tools

The range for this position is $97,542.00 - $134,121.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
