Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
Provide metrology and precision measurement services to product and process development teams as well as manufacturing customers. This role supports the evaluation of state-of-the-art optical and dimensional metrology methods, equipment, and software to enhance Corning’s competitive advantage while fostering innovation within the precision metrology organization. Additionally, managing all aspects of lab operations such as calibrations, safety protocols, audits, organization, and overall laboratory management responsibilities.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Establishing measurement request requirements including instrument selection, software selection, measurand definition, and uncertainty requirements, execute measurements, analyze data, and communicate results.
- Executing high precision dimensional, coordinate, and surface metrology in support of manufacturing, product and process development, and fundamental understanding.
- Performing data analysis and reporting of results using sound statistical methods.
- Ensure effective calibration, preventative maintenance, software updates, and interim performance verification of high precision metrology equipment.
- Execute other tasks associated with day-to-day precision metrology lab operations.
- Assembly and configuration of test systems, provide support to testing machines from automation projects or other development labs.
Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of precision dimensional, coordinate, and surface metrology equipment and their metrological characteristics including experience with CMMs, optical metrology, surface metrology.
- Knowledge of Hexagon Metrology PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, Winwerth, or other coordinate metrology software packages.
- Knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009.
- Knowledge of MSA/Gauge R&R/capability analysis/GUM uncertainty principles.
- Proficiency in statistical tools like JMP/Minitab for data analysis/reporting.
- Experience troubleshooting measurement systems/software installations/upgrades.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 10%, global travel.
- Aability to obtain a passport with no restrictions preventing entry to the United States, China, Taiwan, Mexico, European Union Nations, or Brazil.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
This position will require a 40+ hours/week depending on project work and deadlines

The range for this position is $57,094.00 - $78,505.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
