Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of position: 

The position is responsible for the design of cable processing equipment in addition to the purchase, assembly, fabrication, and verification of the equipment on a manufacturing or a development line. Specific items that are designed, purchased or modified include, but are not limited to, wire payoffs, extruders, powder application, cable jacket removal, yarn spinners, LASER printers, measurement equipment, and ink jet printers. The position would require team work as well as individual work to accomplish the tasks in a timely manner.

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international):

  • Up to 10%

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm

 

Required Education:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree with a GPA of 3.5 or better

 

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years
  • Familiarity with fabrication techniques (machining, forming, welding, wire, etc.) to ensure that the equipment can be made in a cost effective manner.
  • Experience in computer aided design. Familiarity with Autodesk a plus.
  • Technical design of mechanical components and assemblies in an industrial environment
  • Modification of the equipment design based off of data analysis.
  • Familiarity with fabrication techniques (machining, forming, welding, wire, etc.) to ensure that the equipment can be made in a cost effective manner.
  • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments in a team based environment with minimal supervision.
  • Solid written and verbal skills
