Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Role Purpose

Prepare direct labor cost reduction strategy for cables manufacturing, prepare deployment plan and execute the plan.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop direct labor reduction strategy and roadmap for cables manufacturing
  • Prepare direct labor cost reduction projects portfolio delivering year on year cost reduction with capital requirements
  • Prepare and execute capital funding plan for direct labor cost reduction projects
  • Manage and execute direct labor cost reduction plan
  • Meet all safety and environmental regulatory requirements for projects
  • Lead process and equipment innovation of existing manufacturing processes to improve direct labor efficiency
  • Establish a culture that values engineering competency and deployment of the scientific method
  • Build an effective technical network of relationships at the plant, technology, and corporate level
  • Increase the body of knowledge in support of advancing process/ equipment technologies and capabilities
  • Champion Performance Excellence, Lean and other corporate manufacturing engineering initiatives as required

 

Experiences/Education

 

Required

  • B.S. or equivalent technical degree
  • Progressive responsibilities in engineering and engineering leadership including engineering department supervisor experience
  • Experience leading teams and departments in meeting continuous improvement goals, making step change process improvements, managing innovation, and expanding technical capability
  • Experience coordinating activities within functional responsibility and collaborating with other groups to achieve results
  • Track record of engineering accomplishment
  • Demonstrated track record of growing talent

 

Desired

  • M.S. or equivalent technical degree
  • Experience with multiple manufacturing processes
  • Experience in technical collaboration with staff engineering groups, managing capital projects, and the innovation process
  • Experience in staff or other areas such as Project Management, Quality or Applications Engineering, Operations, or Performance Excellence
  • Exposure to and understanding of the Technology Community network and resources
