Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
- Provide off-shift 2nd level technical expertise to support 24/7 manufacturing operations.
- Utilize engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish troubleshooting, technical assignments, and projects.
- Make decisions based upon sound engineering and scientific methods.
- Actively participate within and beyond department boundaries to resolve important process and product issues.
- Work with maintenance and engineering to drive process and reliability improvements.
- Enhance manufacturing capabilities through the application of engineering fundamentals and supporting the engineering and operations efforts and initiatives from and engineering perspective.
- Independently execute projects to fulfill department goals and objectives.
- Reports directly to maintenance supervisor but dotted line reporting to the FR Engineering supervisor.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Provide Level 2 support for process and equipment, assisting maintenance and operations on your assigned shift.
- For designated area, manage process performance improvement (OEE), recipe management, and small-scale projects (Safety, Yield, Cost, Capacity)
- Data analysis of nuisance or repeat issues from equipment and process to drive root cause based corrective actions to completion.
- Identify and provide technical information to dayshift maintenance, engineering and operations with regards to equipment and process specifications / requirements.
- Interface with operators, team leaders, maintenance, and peers to develop and implement process, controls, equipment, or safety improvements into manufacturing
- Develop maintenance and operator training and troubleshooting documentation
- Troubleshoot and address mechanical & controls issues – including completing basic installations of components
- Assist in the commissioning and qualification of equipment
- Support master trainers with the training of production personnel on new equipment
- Document process procedures required to enable production to run equipment and products efficiently and within specifications
- Document calibration and configuration procedures required to allow production equipment to run efficiently within product specifications.
- Train maintenance and other support personnel to improve Level 1&2 troubleshooting skills plant wide
- Work with maintenance team to develop and improve existing preventative / predictive maintenance documentation.
- Support the transfer of new cabling technology, materials, or processes from development to production.
- Provide processing support during product development, develop plans as to how the equipment/processes will be employed into production and ensure that the new technology is repeatable in a production environment prior to transfer
- Ensure all production and maintenance documentation is completed such as MI's, SOP's, PM's, calibration, and troubleshooting guides
- Completion of shift reports and paperwork.
Work Hours and Schedule:
- Normal working hours are Night shift (C or D schedules).
- 12 hour shift schedule
- Informal 24/7 coverage for ad-hoc call-in support is required.
- (2nd Level Subject Matter Expert).
Travel:
- Less than 2%
Education and Experience:
- High School or equivalent
- Technical degree desired
- 3+ years manufacturing experience (fiber optic / cabling preferred)

- Excel and PowerPoint knowledge
Desired Skills:

- Knowledge of plastic extrusion
- Direct cabling process and equipment knowledge
- Design software knowledge (AutoCAD, Inventor)
- Data analysis skills (pivot tables, PowerBI)
- Ability to use basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, and rulers)

The range for this position is $29.75 hourly rate - $34.50 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
