Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position: 

Lead multi-disciplinary, multi-functional global teams in the development and delivery of new technology solutions for any of the regions or business segments within the Corning Optical Communications business.
Manage complex programs in global matrix organization, assuming full responsibility for the timing, performance and budget.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead complex optical communications programs, owning schedule, budget, and technical performance from concept through completion. 
  • Build and lead global, cross‑functional teams; develop and execute integrated project plans while securing internal and external resources. 
  • Drive disciplined execution using structured development processes, tools, and clear decision‑making to deliver results. 
  • Serve as the primary interface to executives, customers, and partners; communicate status, manage expectations, and support business case development.

 

Travel Requirements: 

Domestic and international travel expected ~25%.  The amount of travel time will vary based on the needs of the program. 


Education and Experience: 

    Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree or higher in relevant discipline.  
•    Extensive experience in the management of complex, cross-functional, culturally diverse teams containing both technical and non-technology roles.
•    Minimum of 10 years total of technology, development, and manufacturing and/or manufacturing engineering with project management experience.

 

Required Skills:

•    Demonstrated personal initiative with a track record of completing challenging business objectives.
•    Ability to translate needs into relevant and actionable program requirements.
•    Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities, changing requirements and ambiguity.
•    Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills at all levels of an organization (team, peer, and executive levels) with a demonstrated ability to build relationships in a heavily matrixed, team environment.
•    Ability to manage and effectively leverage a team of diverse expertise, backgrounds, cultures and styles.

 

Desired Skills: 

•    Multiple-year work experience in at least two of the following areas: Commercial, Development, Manufacturing, or Engineering.
•    Six Sigma Black Belt training, experience and/or certification.
•    Completion of formal project management training with further preference for Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

The range for this position is $155,994.00 - $214,493.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
