Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for sustaining the overall Product Quality Architecture and Quality Management Systems to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with industry standards. The Quality Engineering Supervisor will collaborate closely with cross-functional groups, including Process Engineering and Product Line Management, to ensure customer Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) needs are consistently met.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•    Provide comprehensive leadership in problem-solving, issue resolution, and follow-through on quality-related challenges impacting manufacturing operations.
•    Coach, mentor, and develop a team of quality engineers and technicians, focusing on daily responsibilities and long-term professional development.
•    Collaborate with Technology and Engineering teams to enhance existing product designs and oversee new product transfers, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and expectations.
•    Lead efforts to understand and meet internal and external customer needs, both stated and implied, through continuous monitoring, improvement, and maintenance of robust quality systems.
•    Implement and execute the Product Quality Architecture strategy effectively.
•    Engage with various levels of management within Corning Optical Communications to address quality issues, drive problem resolution, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
•    Lead initiatives to reduce customer returns and notifications, driving down the cost of product quality through continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
•    Ensure the plant maintains a robust and compliant Quality Management System that meets industry standards and certifications.

 

Travel Requirements:

•    Minimal travel required (<10%), including potential international travel to interact with divisional facilities.

 

Work Schedule:

•    Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
•    Occasional attendance at off-shift meetings or events may be required.

 

Required Qualifications:

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
•    Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to at least two distinct roles.

 

Required Skills:

•    Strong understanding of manufacturing and quality principles, with proven ability to optimize and execute them effectively.
•    Base knowledge of statistical methodologies and measurement assurance/calibration principles.
•    Familiarity with ISO or TL Quality System fundamentals.
•    Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions and solve complex problems.

 

Preferred Skills:

•    Proficiency in data acquisition, consolidation, and analysis from multiple sources.
•    Knowledge of product specifications and measurement techniques.
•    Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
•    Hands-on experience with ISO 9001 or similar certification processes.
•    Understanding of internal and external auditing practices.
•    Project management experience is a plus.

 

Soft Skills:

•    Strong situational leadership abilities to manage and inspire a diverse team.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas to stakeholders at all levels.

The range for this position is $112,328.00 - $154,451.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
