Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

 

We are seeking a highly skilled technical leader to tackle chronic issues, navigate technological challenges, and drive transformative improvements in cost, quality, and capacity. This role focuses on advancing process technology, developing innovative solutions, and serving as the technology gatekeeper to ensure consistency and best practices across our division. Additionally, you will act as the Data Team Lead for quality/OFC projects, designing, building, testing, and deploying new systems to meet our strategic goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Solve complex technical problems and implement impactful solutions.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Protect and advance intellectual property and fundamental knowledge.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to execute large, high-impact technical initiatives.
  • Deliver robust, scalable processes and technologies to meet organizational goals.
  • Champion innovation and risk-taking in the development of manufacturing roadmaps.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) and contributor to technical strategy development.
  • Maintain and enhance quality systems, including ETQ governance councils and SAP interactions.
  • Drive continuous process simplification and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide leadership for special projects, including quality system start-ups, audits, and system migrations.

 

Special Initiatives

 

  • Quality program leader for Process Capability Reporting using advanced tools (e.g., Databricks, Kairos, Python, Power BI).
  • Improve Early Stage Manufacturing (ESM) systems.
  • Establish centralized quality dashboards and enhanced reporting systems.
  • Support system replacements and upgrades, including SharePoint migration.
  • Lead global quality system implementation across diverse sites.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated success in solving complex manufacturing issues.
  • Experience leading IT system projects with measurable impact.
  • Expertise in quality management systems, ETQ development, and data design.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab) and modern platforms (e.g., Power Apps, SharePoint, COMET).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Plant operations experience and familiarity with global project implementations.

The range for this position is $112,864.00 - $155,188.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
