Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position

In this role, you will plan and drive execution to deliver complex innovation projects on time, in-scope, and on budget.  Lead project Core Team and drive decision making and documentation.  Expected to drive project communication including within team, to stakeholders, and to leadership.
 

Key Tasks

  • Owns and controls project Scope, Schedule, Budget, and Quality
  • Understands customer needs and drives delivery alignment
  • Establishes and maintains project scope and inter-dependencies with other projects, including efficient response to change
  • Oversees product and process technical design and identifies mismatches to customer or market needs
  • Understands aspects of technical design and facilitates identification of failure modes and effects
  • Understands manufacturing principles and aligns solution to enable long-term profitability
  • Conducts risk analysis and develops risk mitigation and contingency plans
  • Establishes and maintains project schedule, ensuring sound logic and techniques are used for estimations and uncertainty mitigation
  • Establishes project budget and maintains spending to budgeted levels
  • Seeks resources (people, machines, materials) proactively in order to meet milestones and holds resources accountable for delivery
  • Facilitates rational decision-making processes with team and stakeholders
  • Ensures all documentation is complete and stored properly
  • Resolves conflict within the project through leadership & negotiates resolution to external conflict
  • Communicates the project status internally and externally to the organization, stakeholders, and customers in both formal and informal settings
  • Supports best practices for project management and improves / refines Innovation processes

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or similar
  • 3+ years in a Product Development preferred
  • Obtains timely input before making decisions
  • Uses a toolset aligned with the intent and with project need
  • Takes acceptable risk to advance the business
  • Responds effectively to new information, situations and individuals
  • Demonstrates a positive, proactive attitude toward change
  • Collaborates for the optimal business outcome

 

Travel Requirements
•    Able to travel as needed to visit customers, meet internal team members,  and evaluate products and processes, up to 25%

 

Hours of work / work schedule / flex-time
•    Basic work hours are dependent on the needs of the project

 

Desired Qualifications

  • MS preferred
  • Project Management Professional certification desired

The range for this position is  $112,930.00   -  $155,279.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
