The Field Application Scientist works in a competitive environment and requires in-depth knowledge of bioprocess technical, application, market and R&D trend, and enhances the technical relationship with key end users.


The purpose of this role is to drive the incremental growth of life sciences business with an emphasis on Bioprocess. This role will build technical credibility for the bioprocess business by providing scientific and strategic support of upstream customers for vaccine production and cell therapy products. The candidate will serves as the customer’s primary technical point of contact and ensures their overall satisfaction with the Bioprocess products, services, and technical support provided by Corning.


The activities are mainly for technical responses, technical seminar/workshop, develop technical materials, hands-on training and developing new end users together with account managers. This role requires in-depth knowledge of bioprocess technical, market and technical trend. In addition, the Field application Scientist would support the drug discovery business.




  • Work with Account Managers and Specialist team to find and close bioprocess and media opportunities and provide solutions to meet/exceed financial sales targets
  • Provide high level pre- and post-sales process development support of bioprocess products
  • Support launch of new bioprocess products and speed up customer adoption
  • Support hands-on training and experimental design, process optimization and develop suitable solution and proposals for the end user
  • Provide technical responses and resolution for the end users and distributors

  • Accountable for definition of and adherence to service, training and support concepts
  • Conduct on-site customer training for customers for assigned products and/or applications
  • Perform trouble shooting and implement solution to technical issues
  • Transfer customer expectation of products design to relevant internal stakeholders
  • Serve as technical consultant to projects both internally and externally
  • Enable sales budget achievement together with account managers
  • Responsible for technical support, owning technical seminar, workshop and new products training
  • Aligns the customer’s technical expectations with the division’s capabilities and plans, including specification management and the articulation of a clear business case to justify changes
  • Negotiates and finalizes product specifications in a manner that balances the customer’s needs with the division’s product strategy, including its global product specifications
  • Sell overall CLS value proposition to meet customer expectation and gain commitment from customer to use Corning technology/platform
  • Establish contact and develop working relationship with appropriate resources within the technical societies and key accounts
  • Maintain close relationships with sales and marketing team to support the business targets, identify trends and opportunities, and resolve the technical problems that the customers are facing using our products FAS will take major role in technical questions/answers via email/phone as well as direct visits
  • Technical Support Effectiveness Raising of Corning’s technical profile (# of technical profiles via seminars, posters, on-site and remote training, publications as compared to target)
  • Customer satisfaction (favorable responses on customer survey regarding service quality, delivery, and business impact as compared to target)




  • MS degree in Life Science required; PhD desired
  • In depth knowledge of the Bioprocess industries
  • Experience working with various mammalian cell culture processes and microcarriers
  • Additional knowledge of different assay platform is a plus
  • 5 + years of industry experience in cell culture process development and/or manufacturing within a pharmaceutical/biotechnology company
  • English and another European language - a must


Travel expectation up to 50%.
