The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

This is a 2nd Shift, four day, 10 hours per day shift, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, 3:00 pm to 1:00 am with paid lunch and $4/hr shift differential.

 

The purpose of this position: is to Independently set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools to produce complex precision parts that meet precise specifications.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate CNC mills, lathes and EDMs (electrical discharge machine).
  • Follow instructions on routers, drawings, and SOPs (standard operating procedures) and use proper methods of producing a quality part Use standard measuring devices and CMM surface plate to verify accuracy and quality of work Conduct first piece checks with QA sign off Edit part programs and make geometry, fixture and tool length offset adjustments as required Operate Equipment at a rate that equals or exceeds quality and efficiency standards specified on the traveler.
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures Confer with engineers, production personnel and programmers to resolve machining or design issues.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Train and mentor others as required Maintain a clean and safe work area Working Conditions: Safety glasses and safety shoes High Noise level Exposure to chemicals and oils Standing 75 % of shift Some occasional heavy lifting, but not for long periods of time (up to 50 lbs.)

Education/ Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent Two-year technical degree preferable
  • 3+ years’ experience having performed multiple set ups and operation of CNC Mills and Lathes Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and its application to blueprint reading
  • Experience making N/C program changes
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem

The range for this position is ​$28.00 hourly rate - $33.13 hourly rate.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
