Scope of Position:

The Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) Principal Systems Engineer will work to design novel system’s designs, develop new business, and lead multidisciplined engineering teams to successfully realize deliverable hardware. They will work closely with business development to translate customer driven requirements into actionable engineering solutions. They will lead design and engineering efforts required to support the Hyperspectral Imaging Line of Business. They will advise, direct, and document work with optical, mechanical, and electrical designers to develop new HSI hardware that supports program or product specifications. They will guide and advise senior management on HSI future technologies and potential growth opportunities. In this position, the HSI Principal Systems Engineer is tasked to assist and develop the HSI lab resources required to support the integration and test of newly designed HSI systems. This includes system characterization, electrical integration, optical test & analysis, sensor function, and radiometric calibration.

 

Required Education and Skills: 

  • PhD in Engineering (systems, optics, electrical, physics) with 5+ years of experience or a MS with 10+ years in electro-optic IR related systems.
  • Strong understanding of IR systems and their architectures, including IR sensors, spectrometers, optics, and mechanics.
  • Strong understanding of IR sensor driving electronics, IR Cryocoolers, and embedded software. Spice knowledge a plus.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital video pipelines and their respective supporting components, (FPGAs, Micro Processors, DRAM, SSDs, etc..).
  • Capable of measurement, modeling, and characterization of IR camera systems, MTF, System Noise, and Spectral Sensitivity.
  • Ability to generate Engineering growth tasks for future HSI products.
  • Ability to author and present technical communications with both customers and internal executive management.
  • Strong problem solving skills, and willingness to mentor younger engineers.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Competence and/or technical understanding of technical development tools in engineering (e.g., Matlab, Mathcad, Python, Zemax, SolidWorks, Spice, Lab View, etc.).
  • MS Office PowerPoint, Word, Excel Proficient, and MS project familiar.
  • Good communicator with ability to present technical material to non-technical persons.
  • Capable of running developmental experiments with diverse engineering resources.
  • Report writing with good organizational skills.

 

Travel:

  • We anticipate up to 10% travel for this role primarily domestic, to customer sites, other Corning facilities, and trade shows.

The range for this position is  $109,570.00   -  $150,660.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
