The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

In this role of Mechanical Engineer, you will develop producible mechanical designs and documentation to meet the overall system design performance and requirements flow down. The Mechanical Engineer develops the mechanical concept, defines the parts and materials, develops and/or directs the solid design model, and supervises/approves the production drawings and documentation. You will perform or lead the tolerance, structural, thermal, and mechanism analyses. You will also support the development of prototypes, verification testing, and DTUPC.

-  We will design mechanical parts and assemblies for optical systems subject to A&D environments with support from optical designers

-  We support the build of prototypes

-  We anticipate up to 10% travel for this role.

-  We require a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

-  We need 5+ years’ experience performing mechanical design

-  Designing, modeling, and drawing documentation (SolidWorks preferred)

-  Good knowledge of geometric tolerancing

-  Working knowledge of shock, vibration, and thermal analysis

-  Competency in finite element analysis (Nastran preferred)

-  Experience designing mechanics for A&D and/or optical systems

-  Test setup and fixture design is desired
