Scope of Position:

As a finishing engineer, use your deep knowledge and experience with developing optic fabrication processes for high performance systems typical of aerospace and defense (A&D) products. You will work with product development teams to develop and deliver effective polishing and diamond turning processes for the production of precision aluminum mirrors and multiband refractive optical elements.


Required Education & Experience:

  • BS degree in an Engineering field such as Optical, Mechanical or Manufacturing
  • We are seeking 5+ years’ experience in precision optical fabrication


Priority responsibilities include:

  • We develop and document efficient processes for both conventional and deterministic mirror polishing
  • Continue to advance the state of the art for diamond turning optical fabrication
  • Prototype and pilot production builds
  • We provide training of manufacturing personnel on new capabilities
  • Assess manufacturing capability gaps and recommend development activities
  • Interact with internal and externals customers to provide project status updates


For our team, we need extensive experience in fabrication and testing:

  • Working with reflective & refractive optical elements such as spheres, aspheres, freeforms and prisms
  • Zeeko and/or MRF deterministic finishing
  • Diamond-turned metal substrates, crystals and optical glasses
  • Programming of diffractive and aspheric profiles
  • Interferometric component metrology using interferfometers: Zygo, 4D, etc
  • Characterization of surface roughness, profilometery
  • CGH, surface profilometers, CMM, and Talysurf
  • GD&T to read and interpret print drawings
  • Relevant ISO10110 and MIL-SPEC standards
  • Thin film coated optics
  • ISO classified clean room protocols
  • MATLAB programming a plus
