Scope of position:

Opto-Mechanical Engineer Purpose of position In this role the Opto-Mechanical Engineer will develop producible mechanical designs and documentation to meet the overall system design performance and requirements flow down. The Opto-Mechanical Engineer develops the mechanical concept, defines the parts and materials, develops the solid design model, and create the production drawings and related documentation. The Opto-Mechanical Engineer performs tolerance analysis and fundamental structural, thermal, and mechanism analyses. This engineer supports the development of prototypes to performance requirements, cost targets, and schedule. The Opto-Mechanical Engineer supports product verification by designing fixtures and by supporting the testing.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing mechanical parts and assemblies for optical systems subject to aerospace and defense (A&D) environments with support from optical and other engineers.
  • Support the build and test of prototypes.
  • Support the control of engineering documents.

 

Required Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience performing mechanical design.
  • Proficient with CAD for designing, modeling, and creating detail and assembly drawings. (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Working knowledge of geometric tolerancing

 

Desired skills:

  • Working knowledge of shock, vibration, and thermal analysis
  • Experience designing mechanics for A&D and optical systems.
  • Test setup and fixture design is desired.

 

Soft skills:

  • Must work well in a multi-disciplined team consisting of system, optical, electrical, and metrology engineers.
  • Must communicate well in writing and orally.
  • Must communicate detailed technical information to other engineers and be able to distill the information for non-engineers as needed.
  • Willingness to support others and to share ideas.

 

Travel:

  • We anticipate up to 10% travel for this role.

The range for this position is  $78,415.00   -  $107,821.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
