The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Role Purpose

  • Directs the plant engineering organization in support of achieving lowest possible competitive costs, and superior quality and service
  • Manages plant and manufacturing processes and technologies to expand capabilities
  • Leads the professional development of plant engineering personnel.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide short term and strategic technical planning to improve plant profitability through Engineering advancements and applications
  • Lead the Process and Manufacturing Engineering organizations
  • Lead plant involvement in innovation and product development processes to insure effective transfer of new products and processes to manufacturing
  • Define and manage improvement portfolios including capital and cost reduction
  • Define, manage, and support continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes
  • Drive efficient, rigorous problem-solving methodologies
  • Assure growth in talent and capability of plant engineering staff
  • Champion Performance Excellence

 

Required skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressive responsibilities in engineering leadership in a manufacturing environment
  • Solid problem-solving skills using MEE, MIE, and LEAN methodologies
  • Ability to manage diverse technologies and engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated track record of growing talent
  • Six Sigma Black Belt and Innovation Black Belt Certifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment
