The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

The purpose of this positionto perform production on all complex precision parts on CNC machines and programming on product for CNC lathes and milling machines.

 

Significant Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and operate most equipment without supervision
  • Programs using Mastercam and/or PowerMill from 3D models and drawings
  • Makes edits to Mastercam and/or PowerMill programs if required
  • Creates setup sheets, inspection check lists, and tool sheets
  • Works with supervisor and team leader to define processes, tooling and fixtures
  • Fully capable of fabricating all complex prototype tooling and fixtures from drawings
  • Able to design fixtures if required to make product
  • Responsible for quality of own work, helps to support others with quality of work
  • Follow instructions on routers and drawings and uses proper methods to produce quality parts
  • Use standard measuring devices, CMMs and height gages to verify accuracy and quality of work
  • Conduct first piece checks with QA sign off with minimal supervision
  • Performs some training of others
  • Keeps area organized and clean on a daily basis
  • May be required to help in other departments depending upon workload

  • Exposure to chemicals and oils
  • Standing 75 % of shift
  • Some occasional heavy lifting, but not for long periods of time (maybe up to 50lbs)

 

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s Degree desirable
  • 3+ years related machine shop experience
  • Blueprint reading skills

The range for this position is ​$25.25 hourly rate - $42.50 hourly rate.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
