The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

The purpose of this position is:

  • To lead the day-to-day operations of the department which includes, but is not limited to, conveying and instilling the importance and commitment to quality and safety, work assignments, effective communication, problem escalation, critical thinking application to issue resolution, part inspection, information resource creation, issuing part non-conformances, reviewing prints/drawings and data verification/correction.
  • Additionally, the Lead is expected to be able to clean parts, perform all environmental testing (including spectrals) and independently set-up, operate and clean/prep at least 1 coating chamber to deposit multi-layer optical coatings in a high vacuum environment within 1 year of hire (training provided).
  • Lastly, the Lead will be expected to be the owner of at least a couple of improvement initiatives per year and will be required to work overtime as needed to meet our obligations to our customers.

 

This position includes significant duties such as:

  • Operates vacuum coating chamber(s) daily working toward meeting schedules and deadlines outlined by the department’s Supervisor
  • Participates in the disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and maintenance of coating chambers utilizing bead blasters and other various tools and equipment
  • Execution of the production schedule and communication of instances where schedule adherence is not possible
  • Maintains accurate data as required for manufacturing and quality records including but not limited to maintaining the chamber run logs and maintenance logs
  • Utilizes production schedules and automated shop floor control system to maintain status of the product
  • Attends daily production meetings when the Coating Supervisor is out
  • Performs product and diagnostic measurements using IR and UV-Vis spectrophotometers
  • Responsible for training team members on various subjects for which the Lead is qualified
  • Required to backup other operators on other systems to cover for vacations, sickness, etc.
  • Participate in problem solving sessions, and process reviews – (as required)
  • Follow all documented procedures and assist with the preparation of new documents

  • Heat, Noise, Odors, Chemical Hazards
  • PPE is required
  • Lifting 35lbs daily

 

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Trade School Certificate, or equivalent Experience & 3-5 years previous experience with deposition technologies
  • Exposure to cryogenic vacuum pumps and other proper vacuum chamber maintenance (Preferred).
  • Experience in set up and operation of various types of measurement equipment such as spectrophotometers, profilometers, Nomarski Microscopes (Preferred).
  • Computer literate must have at least intermediate skillset in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel (Required)
  • Previous leadership experience (Preferred)
  • Experience effectively multitasking in a fast-paced, complex operating environment that requires frequent schedule changes at times (Required)
  • Ability to motivate others in ways that are received positively (Required)

The range for this position is ​$26.00 hourly rate - $30.50 hourly rate.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
