The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Quality Inspector, you’ll work hands-on with precision optical and mechanical components, ensuring they meet exact specifications and quality standards. You’ll tackle inspections, measurements, and documentation with laser-sharp focus while collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain our reputation for delivering outstanding products.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

 

  • Inspection: Conduct detailed inspections and measurements of manufactured parts to ensure they meet quality requirements.
  • Dual-Mode Inspector: Perform both optical and mechanical inspections with precision and care.
  • Precision Preparer: Ensure optical components are meticulously cleaned and ready for seamless processing or delivery.
  • Technical Translator: Analyze engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, and measurement specifications to define precise inspection criteria (showcasing your exceptional interpretation expertise!).
  • Operations Optimization: Partner with manufacturing teams to streamline workflows and ensure operations run seamlessly.
  • Data Specialist: Prepare precise and comprehensive data packages for product shipments, ensuring all documentation meets the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • Nonconformance Analyst: Identify, document, and report non-conformities while providing critical support for Material Review Board activities and resolutions.
  • Knowledge Facilitator: Provide training and guidance to team members on inspection techniques and processes to ensure consistency and excellence.
  • Compliance Specialist: Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 standards by meticulously following procedures and promoting best practices across operations.
  • Quality Analyst: Evaluate measurement data, verify conformance to specifications, and prepare detailed reports to effectively communicate findings and support decision-making.
  • Collaborator & Innovator: Work with teams to tackle quality concerns and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to make processes even better.

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

  • A sharp eye for detail and a knack for solving problems independently.
  • 1-3 years of experience in optical or mechanical inspection preferred—precision experience is a plus!
  • Confidence in handling delicate, high-precision components.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints.
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and standard drawing practices is a plus.
  • Computer fluency, including experience with Windows and Office software, preferred.

 

Work Environment:

 

  • Chemical Handler: Occasionally work with alcohol and acetone to clean optical components (we’ll provide all safety measures).
  • Lifting: Regularly lift materials up to 35 lbs, with team support for heavier loads.
  • Fast-Paced Fun: Operate in a dynamic environment where accuracy and attention to detail are key.
  • Safety First: Work in a clean, organized, and safety-conscious setting.

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in optical and mechanical inspection preferred.
  • ISO 9001 knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of handling precision components and interpreting blueprints.
  • Familiarity with GD&T is a bonus but not required.

The range for this position is ​$22.00 hourly rate -  hourly rate.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
