Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer will develop producible opto-mechanical designs that meet system performance and requirements flow-down. This includes conceptualizing mechanical designs, defining parts and materials, directing solid design models, and overseeing production drawings and documentation. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will perform or supervise tolerance, structural, thermal, and mechanism analyses, as well as support prototype development, verification testing, and design to cost.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design and develop opto-mechanical systems for aerospace and defense and remote sensing environments, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, and environmental requirements.
- Collaborate with optical designers to ensure seamless integration of optical and mechanical components.
- Lead the design and build of prototypes, including planning, assembly, and verification testing.
- We anticipate up to 10% travel for this role at times depending on the program.
Experiences/Education - Required
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 12 years‚ performing opto-mechanical design and development optical systems layout, optical systems and geometric tolerancing. Competency in finite element analysis and experience working with optical design software, optical system test setup and fixture design is desired.

- Opto-mechanical engineering
- Optical Systems
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
- Handling and securing Unclassified Controlled Information (CUI), ITAR.
- Designing for precision manufacturing processes.
- Ability to lead cross functional teams (commercial, technical, operations) in execution of programs, risk management, problem solving and execution of strategy.
- Proven technical aptitude with ability to discern technical approaches by asking the right questions of the team and communicate updates across multiple organizational levels.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external customers.
- Able to make sound decisions by blending analytical thinking with practical judgment, bias toward action.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Expertise in Solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred).
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis (NASTRAN, Ansys, and SolidWorks).
- Strong knowledge of precision manufacturing processes and optical system assembly.
- A passionate and creative problem solver.
- Experience with a Stage Gate Product Development Process.
- Entrepreneurial attitude and approach toward creating new engineered products.
- Organized, meticulous attention to detail, self-starter, and motivated.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Tools (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Project).

The range for this position is $109,880.00 - $151,085.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
