Ultra Precision Machinist – Second Shift
Shift Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 3:15 PM - 1:15 AM (10-hour shifts)
Position Overview: This second-shift position is dedicated to the production of high-precision optical components using advanced machining and inspection techniques. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diamond turning, process optimization, and optical testing, paired with a strong commitment to quality, precision, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machining Operations: Operate and set up diamond turning machining centers and fly cutters to manufacture optical components with ultra-precision tolerances.
- Optical Testing: Utilize advanced optical test equipment, including interferometers, surface profilometers, computer-generated holograms, and LUPHOScans, to ensure component quality and specifications.
- Process Development: Develop, optimize, and document process parameters to maintain production consistency and repeatability.
- Inspection and Quality Control: Operate traditional inspection tools such as toolmaker’s microscopes, micrometers, height gauges, and Vernier calipers for precise measurements.
- Troubleshooting: Independently identify and resolve routine production issues, escalating more complex problems when necessary.
- Team Collaboration and Mentorship: Work effectively with team members and management to achieve production goals while mentoring colleagues and fostering a culture of growth and improvement.
Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt to changing work demands.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality results.
- Ability to manage deadlines effectively while maintaining precision and accuracy.
- Leadership and mentoring experience, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of diamond turning experience, including writing and editing part programs.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a two-year technical degree is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex technical documents.
- Expertise in advanced machining and inspection techniques
Working Conditions:
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Standing for approximately 50% of the shift.
- Safety Gear: Regular use of protective gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
- Chemical Exposure: Handling chemicals including acetone, alcohol, and OMS.
- Material Exposure: Working with materials such as aluminum, nickel, zinc sulfide, zinc selenide, germanium, indium arsenide, and silicon polymers
The range for this position is $27.50 hourly rate - $32.25 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
