Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Provide Controls systems and robotics knowledge for manufacturing / research and development organizations. Serve as an electrical controls resource driving a new automation project related to interfacing with Measurements and Metrology devices with robotics and controls engineering techniques.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the individual will engage with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the fields of controls and robotics processes. This interaction will provide an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge in both areas, further strengthening their expertise and reinforcing their career trajectory in these domains.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide electrical and controls engineering support for new equipment & new technologies to improve measurements and metrology process, to achieve cost reductions, and productivity improvements.
- Actively participate / direct all phases of the project including design, fabrication, installation, debug and start-up support.
- Assist in designing and executing experiments to characterize system capabilities and performance.
- Work with project team to solve automation problems, resolve project related issues, and develop fundamental understanding of technical / process requirements critical to system success.
- Assist to ensure all controls engineering related to these projects are documented properly with electrical drawing packages conforming to Corning standards.
- Individual must be capable of executing project assignments as well as managing projects, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.
Experiences/Education - Required
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in BS or MS program in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
- Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experienced in the preparation of controls drawings using AutoCAD software (or similar).
- Experienced in the design and troubleshooting of electrical control panels.
- Familiar with IEC programming languages (ladder, ST, FDB, SCF, IL).
- Beckhoff, Omron, AB, Siemens PLC and HMI programming skills.
- Structured text programming.
- C++ application development.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
