Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Scope of Position: As the North American Demand and Forecasting Manager for FTTx, you would be responsible for facilitating and creating the overall product demand summary for the FTTx product family. You will be responsible for insuring accurate modeling & timing of customer demand to all product teams within the FTTx directorate and to all internal and external supply sources. This includes development of a systematic approach to gathering the demand data and disseminating the information. This manager will report to the Sr. Director of FTTx for OCS. Key Intangibles: The ideal candidate must possess a unique blend of business, operations and our customer’s FTTx network product needs along with long-range vision and the ability to work cross-functionally in order to create and implement the demand forecasting methodology. He/She must have an objective balance with all areas of the company to include internal and external stakeholders. Lastly, the candidate must be comfortable and willing to make difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions for the optimal outcome of the business.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Define a systematic approach to gathering demand data of our North American Carrier Networks customers.
  • Work closely with market development to monitor the government spending initiatives and ensure the consistent translation of the specific product opportunities and risk across all the affected product lines
  • Develop a consolidated method of submitting an accurate forecast for all product teams within FTTx that can be used for both short-term and iMax capacity planning by our product teams.
  • Work closely with the Market Intelligence group to understand market size, customer CDP, and overall opportunity.
  • Develop and facilitate a monthly cadence with the commercial team to gather customer-specific demand data and develop future projections.
  • Ensure product demand summaries are created and communicated to key stakeholders
  • Ensure all Product line S&OP inputs are aligned & reflect the provided forecasts across OCS & OFC product lines
  • Contribute to the creation of each of the business team’s long-range & near-term plans that are presented to Senior Management (5 yr. planning process, 1 yr. planning etc.)
  • Help identify data sources, reporting and approaches that will enable continued process improvement


Travel Requirements:

  • Limited travel to Corning locations in N. America. ~10%


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Monday-Friday; 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.


Required Education: BS in a technical area or equivalent degree with analytical background


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in product line management, marketing, manufacturing, or engineering in an engineering-based, fast paced and customer-focused environment


Required Skills:

  • Strong ability to create and execute impactful strategies
  • Proven ability to grow and develop team members
  • Fluent command of the English language and able to compose and communicate both in written and verbal formats complex business and technical issues to the various levels inside and outside of the organization
  • Possess strong business and analytical skills including proficient use of spreadsheets and data bases.

  • Work efficiently on multiple projects and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines •Adapt quickly to changing requirements


Desired Skills:

  • MBA
  • Experience with forecasting and forecasting systems
  • Knowledge of FTTx networks and familiarity with product solutions used within these networks
  • Experience working with both production and commercial teams
  • Adept at developing presentations and presenting data
  • Understanding of FTTx production processes (cable assemblies, connector assembly, injection molding, hardgoods assembly)
