Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

In this role, you will develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and support electronics products for Telecom and Commercial product lines to support Global Contract Manufacturing (GCM) activities.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, implement and maintain production process flow
  • Develop working instructions, workmanship standards and process documents, and ensure they are followed
  • Improve continually existing operation, for increased quality, productivity, efficiency and cost savings
  • Investigate operational problems affecting production and reporting and recommending solutions
  • Liaise with production planner/scheduler for ensuring the released products have adequate BOM and routings
  • Manage manufacturing documentation required for product manufacturing i.e. revise drawing, BOM, accurate work instructions and workmanship standards and process procedures
  • Provide manufacturing data i.e. production control charts, reliability, process capability, to improve the process and monitor and measure progress to target
  • Identify ways to reduce production costs through recommendations – i.e. new process equipment, equipment justification to improve performance
  • Work with design engineering on DFX (design for excellence) to include:
    • Design for cost
    • Design for test
    • Design for manufacturability
    • Design for assembly
  • Work with other relevant departments to determine estimated costs, run time, cost reduction and close the feedback loop
  • Train and supervise staff on new development processes and technology

 

Travel and location of work:

  • Up to 30% travel, both domestic and overseas
  • Role based out of the Corning, Keller, TX facility

 

Minimum Education, Skill and Experience Requirements:

  • B.Sc. Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Associated Discipline
  • Strong communication skills and leadership skills.
  • High initiative, self-motivation and ability to work in matrix organization.
  • Minimum 3 years of combined experience in transferring and sustaining Manufacturing Platforms into Contract Manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with Shop Floor Data Control system
  • Good knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, six sigma methodology
  • Experience with New Products Introduction and Product Transfers
