Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

We are seeking an Engineer to support product development and product integrity efforts across the full product lifecycle from concept through production. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to ensure products meet performance, reliability, and safety standards. This is a strong opportunity for early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience in product lifecycle development and continuous improvement within a globally connected manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure product integrity requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) activities, including design reviews, validation and verification testing, and engineering documentation.
  • Analyze product performance and quality data; support failure analysis and corrective action efforts.
  • Coordinate outsourced qualification testing with external labs and work with suppliers on component quality and performance requirements.
  • Assist in managing engineering changes (Engineering Change Request/Engineering Change Order — ECR/ECO) and maintaining compliance with applicable industry standards (e.g., Telcordia, IEC, JEDEC, ISO).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ year of relevant engineering experience, including internships and co-ops
  • Foundational knowledge of engineering principles and product development processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with a programming language (e.g., Python, C, C#)
  • Familiarity with quality tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 8D, root cause analysis, or Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and product testing
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO, TIA, IEEE, or Telcordia

Travel and location of work

 

• Travel up to 30% domestic and international.

The range for this position is $68,064.00 - $93,588.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
