Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to build and lead a state-of-the-art optical verification and qualification laboratory at our Keller, TX facility. This role combines technical leadership, lab operations management, and product qualification expertise, with direct impact on how Corning brings next-generation optical cable assemblies, fiber optic interconnects, and photonic components to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the strategy and roadmap for Corning's optical verification and qualification laboratory, including operating procedures, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance programs.
  • Lead daily lab operations and provide hands-on technical direction when needed.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and technicians.
  • Create and manage qualification plans, validation protocols, and reliability test strategies for new product introductions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define product qualification strategies and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including Telcordia and related optical qualification frameworks.
  • Review and approve supplier qualification plans across global regions, including APAC, EMEA, and North America.

Education/Experiences - Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)
  • 5+ years of experience in optical fiber component or cable assembly qualification; candidates with fewer years and demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience will be considered
  • Laboratory supervisory experience
  • Expertise in optical assembly processes, including active/passive alignment, bonding, curing, and precision placement
  • Experience with fiber optic connector technologies, including LC, SC, MPO/MPT, and MMC connectors
  • Knowledge of optical performance measurements and reliability testing
  • Experience developing qualification test plans and procedures
  • Familiarity with Telcordia and related optical qualification standards

Experiences - Desired

  • Experience working with contract manufacturers
  • Experience with optical transceivers, silicon photonics, or data center interconnect products
  • Experience with automated optical alignment and test systems
  • Background in reliability engineering methodologies

Location of Work/Travel

  • Onsite- Corning, Keller, TX facility.
  • Up to 30% of travel is required.

The range for this position is $147,880.00 - $203,335.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
