Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Purpose of Position:

We are seeking a seasoned Manufacturing Engineering Manager with 15+ years of experience to lead manufacturing engineering efforts through a network of contract manufacturers. This role is responsible for ensuring robust process transfer, high-yield production, and consistent product quality for micro-optical components/assemblies and optical cable assemblies. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in optical assembly processes along with a proven track record of scaling products through external partners.

 

Responsibilities:

•    Lead manufacturing engineering activities across contract manufacturers (CMs) for micro-optical products and optical cable assemblies; own end-to-end process transfer from NPI into volume production at CM sites; and oversee equipment selection, qualification, and replication across CM sites

•    Develop and standardize manufacturing processes for FAUs, including fiber alignment, attachment, and optical performance optimization; and establish clear process documentation (work instructions, control plans, FMEAs) for deployment at CM partners
•    Drive yield improvement, cost reduction, and cycle time optimization across external manufacturing sites; and define and monitor KPIs (yield, throughput, scrap, Cp/Cpk, on-time delivery) for CM performance
•    Lead regular technical reviews and on-site audits with contract manufacturers; support supplier selection, development, and qualification for optical components and materials; and collaborate with quality teams to ensure compliance with qualification standards and reliability requirements
•    Troubleshoot production issues remotely and on-site, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions

 

 

Travel and location of work:
•    30% travel may be required.
•    Role based out of the Corning, Keller, TX facility.

 


Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)
•    15+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering; particularly expertise in optical assembly processes (active/passive alignment, bonding, curing, precision placement), with strong exposure to outsourced or  contract manufacturing models; including strong knowledge of process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), SPC, DOE, and failure analysis
•    Demonstrated success in managing supplier performance and driving improvements remotely and on-site, and proven experience transferring products to contract manufacturers and scaling to high-volume production
•    Experience working with global manufacturing partners (Asia, North America, etc.)
•    Familiarity with Telcordia and other optical qualification standards

 


Desired skills, experience, and abilities:
•    Deep hands-on experience with Fiber Array Units (FAUs), including assembly processes, alignment techniques, and yield challenges
•    Experience with optical transceivers, silicon photonics, or data center interconnect products

The range for this position is $147,880.00 - $203,335.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
