Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Supports new product development by building, assembling, and testing prototypes while assisting with fabrication processes and transitioning products into manufacturing. Performs hands-on technical work in a collaborative R&D environment.
What You'll Do
- Fabricate, assemble, and modify mechanical prototypes.
- Operate fabrication equipment, including CNC machines, 3D printers, and sheet metal equipment.
- Build and test prototype assemblies, including fiber optic cable mockups.
- Support prototype validation, testing, and process improvements.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues.
- Create work instructions and support documentation.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams throughout product development.
- Maintain a safe, organized workspace following quality and 5S standards.
Qualifications
- Experience with fabrication, machining, prototype assembly, or 3D printing.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
- Hands-on experience with machine shop equipment and power tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication or fiber optic cable assembly is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 2–6 years of hands-on experience in fabrication, machining, manufacturing, or prototype development.
Work Environment
- Hands-on role in an R&D lab and machine shop.
- Collaborative team environment with opportunities for technical growth and development.

The range for this position is $60,620.00 - $83,353.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
